Addictive Personalities
I think I may have an addictive personality. Most of you know I'm addicted to DVDs (see my link on the side if you actually need proof.) I'm addicted to good deals on computer equipment. I don't NEED another 10-in-1 card reader, but hey it was only $10 so why not!
I'm addicted to reading blogs. You read that right. I'm not so much addicted to WRITTING blogs, I only sporadically do that, but, man, I live for reading them. And every junkie needs his dealer, and mine is Newsgator. This little program runs and checks all the blogs you subscribe to every hour or so and puts them all in your Outlook just like they were regular mail items. Neat, huh? Now I can read people who blog once a month (like myself) and people that blog a couple of times a day all at the same time!
I read all kinds of blogs from people I know to people I don't to people I've met a couple of times and MAY remember who I am. I read blogs that I think are funny or well written or just a little psychotic (they're fun too!)
So what are my dru^H^H^Hblogs of choice? I'm glad you asked because I'm going to share SOME of the ones I read with you, and these are the ones that are updated daily or almost daily.
Wil Wheaton - WWdN - http://www.wilwheaton.net/. Wil is an actor, you may remember him from such films as Stand By Me or such TV shows as Star Trek, The Next Generation. I'm a bit of a trekie, and that's why I started reading his blog. But i stayed for the content. It's absolutly great. Wil's a great writer and has a way of communicating with his readers that's top notch. I've never met him, I've never posted in his comments yet I feel as though he's a friend (and I'm not trying to be scary/stalker like, sorry if it came out that way. Wil, if you're reading this, I meant it with the utmost admiration.)
Chris Condon - You're a Blog - http://youreablog.blogspot.com - This guy ALWAYS brings the funny. It's a just about daily updated blog that's a cross between funny and really funny. It might not always make sense but it's sure to get a laugh. Or two. Or three.
Tony Pierce - busblog - http://www.tonypierce.com/blog/bloggy.htm This blog doesn't always make sense, and sometimes you wonder what the hell you just read, but it's very entertaining. Helps to read a bunch of them, as the style of the blog is sometimes tough to get into, but if you do, it's usually entertaining. He's not big on capitalization, that's for sure.
Shane Nickerson - nickerblog - http://hollywoodlog.typepad.com/nickerblog/ - I started reading this one because Wil told me to (actually, that's why I started reading Tony Pierce's blog too.) Pretty good stories about him, this blog is a little more personnal than most, but it's good. He's big into VLoging right now (video blogs) but I'm not a huge fan of the medium, yet.
Rob Harford - America Needs Blog - http://fidelblogstro.blogspot.com/ - He hasn't updated in a while, but Scary King is a good story, so it's okay. Where'd you go, Rob?
Mark Cuban - Blog Maverick - http://www.blogmaverick.com/ - Mark Cuban is the owner of the Mavericks, the owner of HDNet, the first all HD all the time tv network, and avid Home Theater enthusiast and a very opinionated individual. I may not agree 100% but he has amazingly good arguments and is a pleasue to read.
Joel Spolsky - Joel on Software - http://www.joelonsoftware.com/ - This is more of a geeky site, talking about good software development and creating a good team. If you're a programmer or manager, you should read his site, it's really good.
So those are the blogs I read that are the most updated (but Robbo's is just barely on there :)
Other blogs I read by the following people aren't updated nearly as often. See the list on Condon's website, I've subscribed to them all.
Also see www.twit.tv or www.thisweekintech.com. It's the old Screen Savers crew from TechTV before G4 bought them out and fired everyone except Kevin. I read all thier blogs, for no real reason, except I like them and thier podcast.
Those are the big ones. I use RSS for a lot of other things (such as checking when Kurtz updates his webcomic again and getting cool deals sent to my inbox for computer equipment) but this was a mostly blog post. I recommend checking a few of them out. Wheaton and Condon probably hold the most apeal to the widest audience, but the rest are interesting reads too.
