Back to work Monday after a nice weekend

The Colbert Report - 7/27 - Landis talk, yeah, Colbert thinks he has high levels of testosterone because he's American. The Word is Secretary-General Bolton - yeah, that guy is crazy and why the hell is he our UN ambassador? He then interviewed the congresswoman of The District of Columbia who can't vote because she's not from a State. A guy from Marvel comics is the special guest and he was pretty good.

I also watched a pretty funny Ask a Ninja where he talks about movies and Star Wars in particular. Pretty good.

Dane Cook's Tourgasm - Episode 7 - The tour finishes with a Q&A at Dane Cook's high school in Massachusetts and then a show at Boston U. They played Minigolf in this episode too. Probably my least favorite episode, the guys were too much into reminiscing about the show, which is good and all, but bring the funny.

Chris Angel:Mindfreak - Metamorphosis - Chris Angel does his very cool, very fast, metamorphosis trick, which was neat, but unfortunatly the Pyrotechnics were set too high and he burned himself and his assistant a bit. Also a pretty neat little bit with that dude that paints all the olives. If you've seen his work you know what I'm talking about.

Mythbusters - Killer Whirlpool - There's two myths in this one (shocker, there are usually two) the first is the name of the show, Killer Whirlpool where they attempt to prove or disprove that a naturally occuring whirlpool in the ocean could sink a ship. They bust that it can sink a ship, but say that it could easily kill a person, at least the really bigs ones can. They also bust the myth that a car can be overturned by a snow plow traveling at a high rate of speed by blowing it over. Yeah, there isn't enough airflow, at least not that I could see.

We then watched Final Destination 3, my review of which you can see at The Film Critic.

*** Book Review ***

Holy Blood, Holy Grail - Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh, Henry Lincoln - I must preface this review by disclosing that I LOVE conspiracy theories. The deeper the theory, the more I like it. So it really is no surprise that I liked this book and liked it a lot. It's a well documented, well articulated argument that it is POSSIBLE (and it is never claimed as fact and is repeatedly said, many many times that it is just an hypothesis of what might have happened) that Jesus was married and had at least one child and has a surviving bloodline today. However, I'm in no position to make a reasonable decision as to if their conclusions are true or not, but it is a very good story.

*** Play Review ***
Spamalot - Went and saw Spamalot in NYC this weekend. It was excellent, the songs were really funny and the play itself was hillarious. Although, I thought the play was at its best when it deviated or had new material from the movie. The major problem is that the funny parts of the movie are funny, but you've already seen them. I've seen the Knights who say Ni and the Black Knight and all of those skits already, so they weren't any funnier when done live. But the new stuff that was added is really good. Interesting tidbit - I finished the book reviewed above, about the Holy Grail, on the train ride home from a comedic play about the search for the Holy Grail. Weird.

Two days at once

Sorry, I forgot to post yesterday (well, Thursday as it's after 12:00 AM when posting this) so I posted two days in one.

Buffy Season 2 - One of my top 3 seasons. (Probably number 2, with 3, 2, 5, 1, 4, 7, 6 being the order of today, but always subject to change.) It has Angel going bad, the introduction of Oz, Spike when he was evil, and a great ending to the season. Just top-notch stuff.

Beer Nutz - Milwaukee - They go to Milwaukee and tour a bunch of breweries and brewpubs. Kinda neat, less just drunk people. Also a pretty neat tour of a homebrew setup, which I liked a lot.

dl.tv - Episode 80 - Lots of good Vista talk, some good other news. Ready Boost looks pretty neat. Also some talk of Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, high end DVD setups and that type of stuff. Plus some cool high-speed photography of water droplets.

Basic Brewing Radio - More coverage from the National Hombrew Competition, this time with more professional brewers. Again, most of this stuff is way over my head, I'm still trying to get my first really good beer to come out, haven't gotten there yet.

What's New Now - 7/26 - A bunch of talk about the AMD-ATI buyout, which I don't quite understand, but, Hey, it's their money. Basic news show today, but not bad. Some talk of the Microsoft Music player that's coming out, but it'll flop, if you ask me, because it won't be as easy to use as an iPod, which is why people have iPods.

Three Sheets - Jamacia - Our host goes to Jamacia where he samples the 4 Rs, 2 Gs and 1 JB. The 4 Rs are Rum, Redstripe, Regge and Rastafarians. The 2 Gs are Guiness (they have a bottling plant in Jamacia) and Ganja which he's pretty sure he had a tea made with as a hangover cure in the morning. The 1 JB is a type of "overproof" rum, bascially rocketfuel. Pretty funny show.

The Daily Show - 7/26 - A three corespondent special report from the Middle East where God is playing the 3 major religions against each other, pretty funny. A new segment called Number Cruncher which wasn't bad. And a Back in Black segment. I love Lewis Black, but you know that. Sharon Weinberger was the special guest, she wrote a book called Imaginary Weapons, something about the Pentagon.

The Colbert Report - 7/26 - Stephen goes into quite a long diatribe about marring ones cousin. I missed the Word but he was talking about letting Saddam out and how that'd make the Middle East better. Oh he also told us what to do in case of a blackout (first thing? Get a generator so you can listen to what he says to do in a blackout.) Niel Kahtyahl is the special guest, he represented some of the detainees at Gitmo.

The Daily Show - 7/27 - The "Boy Band Bombshell" apparently Lance Bass is gay. Hrrm, who cares again? Some weird dude thinks that Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank Engine are Nazi style propaganda to get kids to work. Yeah, he's crazy, I think :). Another installment of "Ten F@#@ing Years." I like how they made fun of themselves/reminisce, with the whole The xxxxx society or NAMBLA. The Special guest talked Middle East problems and how messed up it really is over there, not only East vs. West/Muslim vs Jewish/Muslim vs. Christianity but also Muslim vs. Muslim with some of the Muslims supporting Israel and some not, it's messed up.

We also watched two episodes of Inked, which is an okay show, I like it. But it doesn't really warrant a review because they're all pretty much the same. But it was fun to watch Dizzle try to rap.

Wacky Wednesday ... It is Wednesday, right?

Ctrl-Alt-Chicken - They make Manicotti and it actually comes out pretty good.  They probably could have cooked it a bit longer and maybe even done a few other things a little different, but overall it's a pretty good try.  And Vijay makes an appearance (the camera guy.)

The Daily Show - 7/24 - The show starts off with some Israel and Lebanon talk, shocker it's still bad.  John McCain is the guest, and I'm always a fan of a guy like him on the show.  Stewart doesn't pull any punches and goes right after him asking him flat out if the President is an idiot.  McCain doesn't really say a whole lot, unfortunately, but I don't think he really can.  I'd like to see him run for President because I'd like to see if he'd pander to the fundamental right or actually go after the middle of the road people who made him popular.

The Colbert Report - 7/24 - Stephen celebrates American's win at Miss Universe since, you know, Puerto Rico won.  The Word is Moral Minority.  A Thread-Down, always fun.  Kix ceral is the number one threat because it's Kid-Tested, Mother-Approved.  Doesn't say anything about the Father, needed in the monogamous, man-woman relationship as defined by God.  Howell Raines is the special guest, he's an old newspaper guy.  I didn't think he said much, one way or the other.

The Daily Show - 7/25 - Starts off witha  bit of Mess-o-Potamia.  Then some Trend Spotting with Demitri Martin, where he investigates the hookah - Man you're so high right now.  Ed Burns is the guest, he's in that movie The Groomsmen with Brittany Murphy.  He's okay.

The Colbert Report - 7/25 - I got busy at work, so this was background noise.  Didn't really watch it and didn't catch the name of the guest, but the guy was an asshole, and it scares me that there are people in this world that think that way.

Diggnation - Episode 55 - You know it's going to be a wierd episode because it's a live one.  And they're always crazy.  Johnny Johnny of Tiki Bar TV shows up and gives Kevin a kiss from Lala.  Yeah, they were pretty drunk and Johnny Johnny kept buying them shots, which is always a good time. It was a pretty good show, but a bit light on the news this time.

Command-N - The show starts off with talking about the possibility of iTunes allowing movie downloads.  I'm okay with them offering it, but I won't use it.  They review a really small Kodak camera, but I like Kristen's Sony better.  And the review was, IMO, too long for the length of the show.

Blade: The Series - Bloodlines - Blade is captured by a group called the Bad Bloods whom he used to run with when he was younger.  It was kinda confusing at first.  Krista also is going swimming in some blood pool to increase her spiritual connection with Boone.  The show didn't really wrap anything up and left a lot of things unanswered.

*** Music Reviews ****

Various Artists - Punk Rock is your Friend - Kung Fu Sampler - I love samplers, you get to hear a bunch ( or at least a few) different bands and get a sample of what a record label has.  This time, it's wierd, because I already knew all of these bands from other samplers, but it's all good because it's a good CD.  Ozma has two songs on this CD.  They're Weezer.  Seriously the dude even sounds like Cumo, but I really like them.  Only slightly bad thing about this CD is that it's pretty old by now, a couple of years, and it seems like half of the bands on it have since broken up :)

Dirty on Purpose - Hallelujah Sirens - Dirty, fuzzy guitars with lots of repeating riffs.  A couple of the songs remind me of the Pixies a little, I don't know why because they aren't the same, it just reminds me of them for some reason.  Maybe the Pixies crossed with like a emo band.  The vocals are almost dreamy, and like the review of eMusic said, filled with melancholy.  It's pretty good though, but, for sure, not everyones cup of tea.

Pretty diverse day

Geekdrome - Episode 35 - The guys didn't like Clerks II.  They thought it was funny but it was rehashing other Smith themes, which might be true a bit.  Oh, it's a live show from the comic-con.  It's really all-over the place and annoying at times, but it's okay once in a while.  Alex Albrecht makes an appearance.  I didn't really watch the whole thing, just had it on in the background because it got pretty annoying.  But it was pretty funny when the guy freestyled on "Dan's Whack opinions, specifically about Mark Hamils Acting Abilitiy."

Fast Inc. - Episode 8 - This is the season finale, and it's presented commercial free, which was pretty cool.  They needed to find two cars, one for one of the band members of ZZ Top and another that looks like the car from some movie, sorry I forget which one it was.  It was a pretty good show, but wow, shocker, they found both right at the time limit.

Pimp my Ride - A limo - This is season 5, I don't know exactly what episode but they're going to be pimping a limo.  Which is actually pretty funny.  Shocker, they put alot of TVs in it.  Oh, yeah, they also put in a pneumatic tube for some reason.  Yeah, it didn't make any sense to me, either.  Not a bad episode though and I liked it when the guy fell over because his pants fell down and he tripped.

Treasure Hunters - The Man Behind the Mask - The teams go to Paris to look for clues about the mask they found.  They went through the catacombs, which was neat/creepy.  The mask dude was Lafyette, then they go to England.  Thank god the Foggles got kicked off, they sucked and that girl was really annoying.  Next off -> The Geniuses!

Oh, boy the Phillies lose another.  Why do I continue to support this so-called team?

***Music Reviews ***

Lewis Black - Live from Carnige Hall - Okay, I know it isn't music, but still, it's audio I downloaded from a place that sells music, so I thought it fit better here.  Very funny, very Lewis Black.  If you like his other stuff, this is more of the same.  I find him hilarious so, I'm good with more Black.

Junior Varsity - Bam Bam Bam! - Think The Beach Boys sound with both a girl and a guy lead singer and a slightly punkish vibe.  Surf style rock, big guitars that kind of thing.  Very catchy songs, really short most are under 2 mins.  If you have a chance, give it a listen, it's not for everyone but I like it for some reason.  They call themselves "frat-hop" I can see that.

Stealing Lace's Title: Don't Hassel the Hoff

dl.tv - Episode 79 - The guys are back after a real problem with connection to the Internet that was preventing them from doing a live show.  Some more talk about quieting a computer.  Then a rather lenghthy review of the new NCAA Football game, which I really didn't care about.  Way to much info about Robert's Mom at the end of the show, too.

TWIT - Episode 63: Hey John - Some good talk about the AMD/ATI possible merger.  YouTube is one of the biggest sites on the net and they don't make any money so know one knows how they're affording their bandwidth.  The Netscape dude who copied Digg is now trying to pay diggers to use his site instead of digg.  Also some talk of the HOPE conference, which stands for Hackers on Planet Earth.

What's New Now - 7/21/2006 - Umm, yeah, so Taang and Vodka is apparently the drink of choice of geeks, at least according to the guys on the podcast.  Also talk about the latest Vista build.  Listened to them talk but mostly news I heard before so nothing really stood out.

Inside the NEt - Episode 29 - This week they talk about online Calendars and what the "Holy Grail" of a calendar would be, which is a calendar that syncs to just about everything you own and you can access it anywhere.  I love my Outlook, without it, I'd never remember to do anything, but I'm not sure I want it to follow me everywhere.

Crankygeeks - Episode 19 - Kevin Rose is one of the guests, and he's always good.  Talk is about network apps, specifically social ones, like Digg and how they scale, if they can.  Also, how they fight spam, which is really interesting.

Craft Beer Radio - Episode 47 - Watermelon Wheat???  Yeah, that doesn't sound good to me, but apparently they both liked it some.  An interesting show, they were a bit all over the place in their reviews.

America's Got Talent - Thank GOD for DVR.  Between the 2 hour try-out and the 1 hour result show, that would be 3 hours of mind-numbing bordem and commercials.  As it is, we watched both in about 1 hour skipping through the crap that doesn't matter, the re-runs of what happened before, and the judges that want to hear themselves talk to much.  Also Lace and I nailed the final 2 again.  The show really isn't that bad but they could really shorten it and it wouldn' tmatter even a little bit.

Saturday, July 22, 2006

Yeah, really didn't watch much or listen to much today.

The Daily Show - 7/20 - George Bush decides to speak at his first NAACP conference.  And makes fun of himself at the conference.  The President signs his first Veto, vetoing something more than 3/4 of Americans want.  Oh, I'm also starting to really dislike Tony Snow, the new press secretary.  But then again, how can you like anyone who's job it is to lie with a straight face?  Jon thinks that people should stop calling it Stem Cell research and call it the War on Terri-ble Diseases.  Samantha Bee reports on Extreme Investing, specifically making a killing during hurricanes.  The Special Guest was Paul Giamati who was really funny.

*** Music (CD) Review ***
Dane Cook - Retaliation - Okay, it isn't music, but it is audio and this is a really really funny CD.  I think Dane Cook might be one of the funniest comics working right now and I'd love to see him live because he is so animated in his delivery it loses a bit when it is just audio.  But this is still an excellent 2-disc set if you like comedy albums.

Sorry guys

Sorry to anyone who reads this blog, I just didn't have it in me to update the last two days.  I didn't watch THAT much so you didn't miss much, but I'm going to pick up from today.

dl.tv - Episode 78 - Microsoft is suing people breaking their OEM agreements.  The U.S. Government is trying to block online gaming.  Some talk of the Core2 and I really like what I'm seeing.  I'm either going to build a new computer based on the Core2 which looks really fast for the money, or drop in a really high end AMD processor when the price of them comes WAY down because of the Core2 processors.  Some talk about how to quite your computer, with quieter fans and a DB meter.

What's New Now - 7/19/2006 - Biggest story is the the Core2 again, that chip looks really fricken fast.  I can't wait to get my own.  Oh, I want one of these, reviewed on the show: HERE.  Lace thinks it's dumb, but I disagree.

Basic Brewing Video - 7/18/2006 - The guys go to the Homebrew Conference in Orlando Fl. and interview people on Club Night and drink some beer.  Looks like a pretty good time.

Basic Brewing Radio - 7/20/2006 - Just like the Video, the guys are at the Homebrewer's Conference, with interviews with a bunch of different guys.  The first one is with a guy who makes Chili Beer, with habeneros and other jalopeneo peppers (and I know I butchered the spelling of them, sorry.)  Entire list is :Butch Luxemberger and Dave Morgan - Chili beers, Patrick Paine - Braggots, Matt Ruddell - Brewing in Florida, John Peed - Filtering beer, Chris Bible - Temperature in the life of beer, Steve Hamburg - Session beers.

The Daily Show - 7/19 - A great little bit on Net Neutrality, what it is, basically and why Ted Stevens shouldn't be anywhere near a bill talking about it.  It was background noise, so I don't remember much of the show.

The Colbert Report - 7/19 - Again background noise and I forgot to write this as I was watching/listening so I forget most of it.  Sorry to let you down.

Treasure Hunters - Follow the Drinking Gourd Part 2 - A pretty neat ending, and I can't belive they had to dig for 6.5 hours.  Dude, that sucks, and what is with Team Air-Force getting it in 17 mins?  Luckiest people ever.  Am I the only one who's liking the Miss USA?  Other than a bit of complaining about 4 hours into their dig, they pretty much just shut up and do it, not at all what I expected from that team based on first impressions.

Just a side note - I'm going to change the format ever so slightly.  Usually I post what I watch the night before and what I watch during the day, but I don't usually post until nighttime anymore.  So I'm going to change it up so that the blog will now be reviews from what I watched all day and that night and post before I go to bed.  Usually :)  You won't notice a difference.

Monday, July 17, 2006

Pretty basic monday, catchup on weekend podcasts.

America's Got Talent - Episode 5 - This show is best when viewed recorded so you can skip everything that isn't a performance and even skip some of the performances.  I really liked the Yodeller, All That and the Harmonica kid.

America's Got Talent - Episode 6 - Shocker, I was right, that three that I called were the final three with the harmonica kid being the judges choice and the yodeller beating out All-That for America's choice.  Actually, I say shocker because if you're reading this there is no way that you could know if i'm lying, but I really did call the top 3, and Lace was there to prove it.

Criss Angel: Mindfreak - Celebrity Minds - Criss apparently reads some people minds including Ice Cube and Vince Neil.  Then he put a restaurant of people under hypnosis.  It wasn't the best of episodes.

Mythbusters - Crimes and Myth-demeanors 1 - The guys attempt to bust or prove some Hollywood caper myths including using magnets or suction cups to climb an air duct and how to defeat laser systems and using gum to keep down a preassure sensor.  It was pretty funny, at times, but not one of the best I've ever seen.  Of course Hollywood makes the movies ridiculous, that's the point.  Oh, watching Adam try to climb the side of a 23 story building was kinda neat.

Blade - Descent - I'm really enjoying this show.  It's has a bunch of plotlines but one major plot that they're trying to "solve."  Good action and I just like vampires.

Diggnation - Eipsode 54 - Yet again the guys start OFF the show drunk.  It's kinda neat.  Some guys stole my idea and sent in some hombrew for Kevin and Alex :)  They're pretty drunk and the show gets off topic pretty quickly but there was some good news in there too.  It's an okay episode.  Kevin thinks it is just as expensive to live in San Fransisco as New York.  I think he's smokin' something, although I know that Cali prices are out of control.

Inside the Net - Episode 28 - I didn't quite finsih this but listened to most of it.  It was pretty good, an interview with the creator of typepad, one of the first bloging software out there (and what Wil Wheaton is currently using.)

dl.tv - Episode 77 - The guys are still trying to figure out what's causing the problems with Limelight and some ISPs.  They're guessing that it's a problem with some ISPs basically blocking or slowing down Limelight's stuff since they also serve YouTube's data.  An Intel rep said that the Cell processor (what's going to power the PS3) is only getting 10-20% yields, which is really really terrible, and I'm not sure, if this is correct, how the PS3 is going to ever be built even for the $600 price tag they're saying.  Some interesting theories about what's going on with distributing HD movies, some people think that we'll be buying Hard Drive with HD content on it.  Also some more Net Neutrality talk, Robert and Patrick were called shills of the content industry, which I disagree.  There was a video game review, which always brings the show down and I usually skip it and did this time too.

Crankygeeks - Episode 18 - Cell phones and driving is the first crank subject.  It's a wierd thing because just about everyone I know hates it when other people are on the cell phone while driving, yet will still use their own because it's convenient.  I've used a Hands Free device for just about as long as I've had a cell phone, and I highly recommend them, but I know they're not for everyone.  Some talk about how Microsoft is too big of a company to create a real "iPod killer" which I actually agree with.

Twit - Episode 62: Lazy Sunday - Interesting discussion in the beginning about the TV networks having their lowest week ever in TV Viewership.  But what's really interesting is that these guys think it's great because more people are watching and listening to podcasts and vidcasts instead of traditional media.  The RIAA is shutting down lyrics sites.  Figured out why ... Gracenote just signed a big fat deal with the RIAA to offer lyrics on the web for a fee.  Assholes going to monitize one more thing.

Command-N - Episode 53 - I think I have figured out what the problem with this show is.  It's a scripted show that they try to make look like it's off the cuff.  It's not, it's scripted.  Diggnation, dl.tv, etc have "scripts" as in we're going to talk about this at this time, but they're still pretty much live and real.  But this one I think isn't or at least doesn't feel like it.  Pretty nice primer on photo/print/web based imaging and pixels etc.  I loved the bus at the end of the show, I think doing the show outside is kinda lame.  Then again, I don't have my own or pay for studio time, etc, so I'd probably do it the same way.

Geekdrome - Episode 34 - There is a special guest and it is Kyle Cease, a standup comic.  Jon encourages the guests to go political to piss of the fanbase :)  Dan thinks the movie was boring, but he also thought the first one was pretty boring.  Both Dan and Jon thought it was way too long.  I disagree, I thought it was pretty good, cept I hated the ending.  The show was kinda okay, but as funny as Kyle was, I thought he brought the show down because he didn't really know about anything that was going on.  Unlike the Kevin Smith episode where he knew as much ore more than the hosts.

Friday's Post

Nightmares and Dreamscapes - Battleground - This is a new series on TNT that is based of of Stephen Kings short stories.  This was an interesting episode where toy soliders come alive and attack a guy who murdered their creator.  It was an interesting premise but I was actually pretty bored because I pretty much nailed all of the "twists" before they happened.

Basic Brewing Video - Interviews from the National Homebrew Competition, it was kinda all over the place, but still pretty neat.  I wish I was there, looks interesting, although I'm not a "brewer" yet, since none of my beers has been exceptionally drinkable.

The Daily Show - 7/13 - Jon discusses the upcoming WWIII, unfortunately, it's not that much of a joke.  I liked Shrapnel the Despair Penguin, he looked sad.  IMO an overly long the world is ending segment.  Bush is still an idiot, WWIII is possibly breaking out in the middle east and all he can talk about is some stupid pig for dinner.  The special guest is Owen Wilson and he's pretty funny, of course.  Stewart loses it during his interview with Colbert before his show.  Of course Colbert was dressed up like a pirate.

The Colbert Report - 7/13 - Colbert makes a bit of fun of the network TVs for their lowest numbers ever.  Of course, you can buy The Colbert Report on iTunes (9.99 for 16 episodes, yeah, right.)  The word in Inquisition.  And a nice Threatdown.  Not quite sure who the guy was the special guest, but he was okay.

Yesterday's Post ... Today!

Criss Angel - Mindfreak - Criss in this episode escapes from a box in Times Square, which was okay.  Then he takes a really young magician under his wing and helps him out and gets him to open for Lance Burton (i think) in Vegas.  It was okay.

Dane Cook's Tourgasm - Episode 5 - Funniest episode so far of this series.  When Dane, Jay, and Greg get Bobby thinking that the Tarapin of Maryland is going to be hosting the show etc. and it was absolutely hilarious.

Beer Nutz - The guys to to Burlington Vermont.  They toured the Magic Hat brewery which is pretty cool looking and some local brew pubs.  It was an okay show.

dl.tv - Episode 76 - Good question about copying a DVD, techincally it's illegal, but if you saw my house you'd know that I'm in the process of ripping my whole collection.  So, umm, yeah I need several TB of storage space (have about 2 right now and less than 1/8 of my collection ripped :))  Also, England is exporting a hacker to the US for trial.  Some good talk about video codecs and playing different videos.

The Daily Show - 7/13 - Show starts off with some Ted Stephens cracks.  Yeah, the guy is a tool (if you haven't recognized yet, I think he might be the worst Senator and def. one of the top 5 right now.)  The special guest was one of the Wayans brothers (I think I misspelled that) and he was pretty funny.

Basic Brewing Radio - 7/13 - Some talk in the beginning about Hot Side Aeration which is way above my skill level for beer making.  The main interview was about pairing beer with food which is an interesting topic because IMO, it pairs just as well with food as any wine.  It was a pretty interesting interview, actually.

The Colbert Report - 7/13 - As Stephen says, only Drunks and Children tell the truth, the trick is to figuring out which on the speaker is.  Stephen the expounds on his plan to keep gay marriage legal in only one state (Mass.) therefore making it a gay Israel containing the problem.  The word is The America Conventions which is to overtake the Geneva Conventions.  Part 26 of Better Know a District, Washington's 2nd.  Also a bit of Colbert's ongoing fight with Mort Zuckerman with Zuckerman being the special guest.

Hump Day

Diggnation - Episode 53 - The guys have, of course, been drinking before the show again.  Today they're drinking a local micro-brew from Arkansas that someone sent them.  I was pretty busy today so it was pretty much just background noise.  I laughed a couple of times, but forgot what was funny.

Treasure Hunters - Follow the Drinking Gourd Part 1 - A two parter so no-one gets kicked off.  The Foggel Family's daughter is a fricken annoying person, and I can't stand her.  The Browns need to get out of this, they're useless as well as the Geniuses (and seriously, who names themself that, even if they are really smart?)  I kinda liked the Underground Railroad thing they did, not bad.

Command-N - Episode 52 - Their 1 year anniversary show.  I still think that, after a year, they seem almost nervous on camera.  I know I couldn't do any better, but I'll only be giving this show one or two more watches before I decide if I want to stay with it or not.  I like how they have sources for all of their news which is pretty nice.  An interview with David Cronenburger about Andy Warhol and technology in general.  They reviewed a weird bean bag chair with audio built in for ipods and other things.  Very interesting, but does not look comfy at all.  I like the Web Picks segment, it's pretty nice.

Colbert Report - 7/10 - Stephen makes a compelling case that the USA takes co-champion in the World Cup being the only team not to lose to Italy in the tournament.  And he flew too many flags last week.  Silver Foxes is The Word, since a lot of companies are getting rid of pensions.  As Stephen says, the good news is that they're also dropping health care so you won't live long enough to see the pensions anyway.  The Special Guest is Amy Sedaris who plays in Strangers with Candy.  Worst. Show. Ever.  But the interview was pretty funny, especially the tumbleing part.

The Daily Show - 7/11 - Apparently America is no longer in the stage of losing it's innocence, but is now an aging crack whore.  Lots of making fun of North Korea, the crazy leader and the good ole' Type-o-dong.  Back in Black segment which was very funny.  John Dean is the special guest and he wrote a book called Conservatives without Conscience, apparently he doesn't like Conservatives too much.

Colbert Report - 7/11 - Stephen is going to dedicate the show to figuring out what's wrong with America's Kids.  The Word is Psychopharma-parenting :).  Pretty funny segment where Stephen talks to kids in the audience (by kids, I mean high school and college.)  Tony Hawk is the special guest, and I like him.  Oh, they changed the set for the interview, much more "cool" and kid-friendly.  As Tony says, it looks like Greg Brady's house.  Not a bad interview, not much said, though.

I'm BAAAAAAACK

Fast, Inc - Episode 5 - The guys at Fast Ashleys need to find a guy named Doc to paint Tommy Chungs car.  They finally find him making hot dogs at a racetrack, pretty funny.  And Tater goes on a date that didn't go extreemly well, but not bad.

Blade - Death Goes On - Neat episode, trying to figure out if Krista is good or bad, which is fun.  Also, the cop dude who is now a vampire is going to cause problems in the future.  It's an interesting allegory with the current drug problems and the new drug of vampire ash.  I'm enjoying this series.

TWIT - Episode 61: Cripes! - Pretty decent episode because they kept the cast small.  Leo, Will Harris, Prager, Robert Heron and Dvorak.  Dvorak wasn't too annoying, Will Harris is always entertaining.  Heron didn't speak much.  Some interesting news this week, AOL might be free in the future, some talk about google as a verb and more Blu-Ray, HD-DVD talk.  Also Kilt Day at The ScreenSavers, very interesting.

dl.tv - Episode 75 - Some really neat talk about a utility to repartition a drive.  I should go download it so I have it for next time I need it (I always seem to need to repartition for some reason, which is why I ususally just do a giant 1 large drive.)  Some okay tech news, but I watched this show a few days late so I already knew most of it.  I find these guys pretty funny and they have good chemistry on set which is nice.  Robert thinks that Gandolf was a stoner.

Crankygeeks - Episode 17 - This is a special DMCA edition, what it is and why it's bad.  Everyone on this show pretty much agreed that it is a terrible overreaching law.  There was an A&R rep, but he was an independent rep so he pretty much agreed.  Also jus tsome more basic copyright talk which was pretty interesting.

Whats New Now - 7/7 - New time listening to this podcast, even though it's been pimped on every dl.tv since it started.  My biggest problem with dl.tv and wnn is the damn commercials.  I understand they need to make money, but you're advertising your own stuff, I just don't get it.  Jim Lauderback is the host, but there's also Patrick Norton and Rober Chang.  Also Scott Asnault who I don't know yet.  Nice making fun of Ted Stevens, which is nice.  The show is a good format, kinda like the old twit and it's about a half hour show, so pretty nice but that might just have been for this episode and it might be longer, usually.

Geekdrome - Episode 33 - Dan tells a story about a girl he knows who meets a guy on a plane, meets same guy in a bar and apparently crashes on her couch.  The guy then has a massive case of diarrhea in her shower.  Umm, yeah, it was weird/funny.  Both guys liked An Inconvenient Truth, which I do want to see, but probably will wait for the DVD.  Jean Claude van Dam will be the villain in the new Rush Hour movie.  Grant is on telling a story about how Fabio saved his life at the gym.

The Daily Show - 7/10/2006 - Nice for The Daily Show to be back on the air, I hate it when it goes on vacation because then there aren't new ones.  See I can do logic too.  Some more World Cup talk.  And apparently in politics you can kiss toddlers anywhere not covered by clothes, but you cannot lift clothes to kiss anything.  The special guest is an ex-marine (Ilario Pantano) who wrote a book.  He's pretty good, eloquent, and makes a good argument.

Ok, I thought I posted this last Friday before I left, but I guess not.

As I said in my title, I thought I posted this last Friday before I left for FL for the weekend, so sorry :)

Beer Nutz - The guys to to San Fransico.  They toured the Anchor Brewing Co. where they make Anchor Steam which was really cool.  The rest of the show was like their other shows.

Three Sheets - Our host goes to Wales to do the Mumbles Mile.  Apparently Mumbles is a town in Wales named after boobies because two nearby mountains look like breasts.  Anyway, the Mumbles Mile is a mile long stretch that you need to stop into one of at least 10 pubs and drink a pint of beer in a night.  Oh, they're Imperial pints which are 20 oz.

**** Music Reviews ****

Big D and the Kids Table - How it Goes - Big D plays fun punk inspired ska that really isn't that good, but is enjoyable to listen to.  Lots of cursing, so if that bothers you, stay away.  They also have a song about Ultimate called 175 (get it?)

Short day

America's Got Talent - Episode 4 - Yeah, Hasselhof is still a tool.  The worlds most dangerous comic was pretty good and I liked the girl who yoddeled.  I'm interested to see what happens next week when it isn't the judges voting anymore.

Command-N - Episode 54 - This is a vidcast done by Amber McArthur, and again, she's okay, so I thought I'd give it a shot.  Similar in topics to dl.tv.  The show just felt awkward, though, as if my friends and I decided to do a tech show.

Then I listened to a bunch of Basic Brewing Radio, again, I'll start reviewing these once I've gotten caught up.

And wow, I just read a really long thread over at IMDB.COM about if The Star Wars: Ewok Adventure movies (The Ewok Adventure later renamed to Caravan of Courage and The Battle for Endor) were Star Wars cannon or not.  And if so, at what time period did they take place.  Apparently Lucasfilm has claimed that they take place before ROTJ but one guy could not get over the fact that Wicket appeared to learn Basic (a.k.a. English to the rest of us) during the movies.  But Lucasfilm has claimed that it wasn't Basic he learned but some other language that was translated into English for the viewers of the movie.  Makes sense, I guess.

Funny Joke -

Donald Rumsfeld greeted the President this
morning. "I'm sorry to report bad news on your birthday, but three
Brazilian soldiers were killed in Iraq."

The president was grief-stricken. He put his head in his hands and
started to sob. Rumsfeld was shocked; he had never seen the president
react this way.

Then Bush said: "How many is a brazilian?"

Ahh, 4 day weekends means lots of podcast catchup

Blade The Series - Pilot - The series picks up where the movies left off.  The Vampires are trying to get stronger and Blade needs to stop them.  I liked the first episode and can't wait to see where they take this show, it has potential.  I think the lead did a pretty good job nailing the way Snipes delivered the character.  Never read the books so I don't know if it's correct or not, but I like that the feel is the same as the movies.  Lots of storylines going on in the pilot so they have lots of places to go with this show.

Ask a Ninja - Episode 23 - Ninternships - Ask a ninja about becoming a ninja in an internship.  Pretty funny stuff, if you can get the French people to fight!  Funny!

Diggnation - Episode 52 - Diggnation is changing the format a little bit.  Kevin and Alex are going to cover a topic genre instead of the biggest stories - FOOLED YOU!!! - they were just kidding.  They're drinking beer, Alex looks like he has a Red Stripe which isn't bad it's a Jamaican beer.  Kevin is drinking Spatan a Munich style Lager.  Alex recounts a shady drug deal he was involved in during college.  Digg v. 3.0 is the biggest story of the week.  Talk about the new Spiderman trailer.  DAMN STRAIGHT - Alex and Kevin agree (and I do too) that Intel needs to rename their processors so that I can look at it and know which one is the fastest.  AMD makes the numbers up, but you know that the 4800+ is faster than the 4600 or 3800.  Some more MySpace talk and Kevin is done with AllofMP3 because someone told him it was illegal.  Alex pirates.  Good episode.

Geekdrome - Episode 32 - Jon does Videoake which is like Karaoke but with film and tv clips instead, WITH some Saved by the Bell talk, NICE!  R. Kelly's Trapped in the Closet is on DVD, and after 5 mins, Dan needed to watch the end of it.  Like 15 mins was Superman and I skipped it since I haven't seen the new movie yet.  And they like to talk about intricate plot details when they review movies.  Then reviewed the new Spiderman trailer (which looks awesome.)  Then some comic and video game talk that I really didn't care about.

dl.tv - Episode 74 - Patrick wears a different shirt AND a blazer on this show because someone complained he wears the same stuff.  Starts off with some Net Neutrality talk, which is really important.  Patrick is just as mad about Net Neutrality as I am.  Cell phones for browsing talk.  Guitar Hero 2 comes out soon, and they like it.  I like this show quite a bit, it's always entertaining.  I feel for the guy who lost 2 months of data for his largest client, because, man, I've been or almost been there.

Crankygeeks - Episode 16 - The guys are cranky because the Blu-Ray is too expensive.  Of course the people have no idea what they're talking about they still think that ICT is enabled and the movie studios and manufactures said they won't until like 2011 (we'll see if that's true or not, but for now no ICT is enabled.)  This particular show was just about complaining with very little good tech talk.  Usually it's better than this.

TWIT - Episode 60 - Leo, Patrick, Prager, Dvorak and some guy Bill Machrone.  Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) is an asshole, and completely off his rocker.  He has no clue what's going on in technology and he needs to be replaced because he's doing WAY too much harm.  Again, some more Net Neutrality which is VERY important that everyone understands what is going on.  And why is Dvorak taking control of the show?  He sucks on TWIT, Leo, com'on man, you're the host, keep him in check.

Inside the Net - Episode 27 - First time I've listened to this podcast.  I've heard Amber McArthur on Twit a few times and she's okay.  But the reason I listened this time, was the guys from Ask a Ninja were on, and I wanted to hear the interview and it's really funny.  I really enjoyed the show and will listen to next weeks and see if it is because of the guests or because of the show itself, so we'll see.

**** Misc ****

Sierra Nevada Summerfest - A bottom fermented lager.  Light, refreshing.  Pours golden with a small white head.  Pretty clean taste, and could really see drinking a lot of this on a hot summer day.

A Lazy holiday, didn't do a whole lot, it was nice

Ment to post this yesterday, but I forgot, happy 4th of July!

Dane Cook's Tourgasm - Episode 4 - In this episode Greg is nowhere to be found don't know where he went.  Bobby goes down in a touch football game, tearing his ACL we'll see if he makes it back and Joey and Bobby get into it, they just don't get along.

The Evidence - And the Envelope Please - This one everything was just a bit too perfect and how it all worked.  It wasn't terrible but I just didn't really love it either.  And I need them to wrap up the storyline on the guys wife already, it's just too much.

Treasure Hunters - Don't Trust Thy Neighbor - The infighting amonst the teams is annoying and the clues should give more than they do so that we could figure them out as well.  Kinda a neat episode, they go to Boston and have to figure out some clues there about the Revolutionary War.  Not bad.

I want my MTV (a.k.a. too much MTV)

Jamie Kennedy's Blowin Up - Episode  7 - Jamie and Stu are supposed to be on Kimmel but they have a fight and break up for the show.  Of course they get back together at the end, after Stu does a rap with Jason Biggs called Fuck Jamie Kennedy.  And they don't get to go on Kimmel because they screwed it up.  I liked the Say Anything moment.

Fast Inc - Straight outta compton - This is a show Aaron told me I should watch and it's not bad.  It follows the people at Fast Ashley's as they try to find specific cars for famous people who want really weird shit.  The first one they needed two Low Riders for a photo shoot and Jennifer Love Heweitt want's an early 70's cream BMW 2002 automatic, which is apparently pretty hard to find.  Why you would want that specific car I'm not sure.

Fast Inc - Get my Drift - The guys weren't really sure what a Drift car is but get two requests in one week for them.  Maxim magazine wants one for a story they're doing on "Drift Girl" and Bow Wow wants one just for fun.  They manage to find both, the first at a real drift racer's shop and the second at a drifting event.

Fast Inc - Can you Dig It - Fast Ashley's most valued customer wants two project Model Ts which apparently don't exist.  They try to find them in the desert because they were told there MIGHT be some burried out there.  Yeah, it was pretty funny.  They never did find them.  Also some rock band School Girls wants a custom RV that they can take on tour.  The guys had just the thing, some ugly ass Chevy designed by the guy who designed the Corvette Stingray.

Fast Inc - Whatever Lola Wants - Lola is looking for a vintage mini cooper but it has to be left hand drive.  And that's really hard to find because most of them are right hand drive.  They finally find one in a parking lot and negotiate with the guy who is driving there to play some soccer to buy his car.  Also Tater needs to find a hot girl who can ride a motorcycle for some video the police are shooting.

The Evidence - Stringers - Not a bad episode, I kinda liked the ending.  Oh, I really like the old guy in this show, even though he doesn't have a huge part.  He's just cool.  How many 70+ people do you know that order a round of shots for people at the bar.  I hope I still do when I'm 70.

Criss Angel - Mindfreak - Episode 8 - This was an okay episode, but not my favorite.  Criss learns to jump a motorcycle and is going to try a 100 ft jump and then disappears in the middle of the jump.  It was neat but I liked his other episodes better.  Ice Cube makes an appearance.
