About once a month my downloads refresh from eMusic.com so I get lots of new music to review. Some other shows as well, but mostly music.
Survivor - Call the Whambulance - Good epsiode and a I like the rivalry between the two guys. Also, you feel bad for Cire a bit, but she lost the challenge fair and square.
Survivor - Finale - Aras wins. Better than Danielle winning, I guess. Woo-hoo, now I have one more night a week that my TV isn't taken over by a show that I really don't care about. Yes, I reviewed it because yes I do watch it, but really, does anyone actually care? If it wasn't for Survivor I coulda watched The Sopranos last night. Still haven't seen last weeks episode of that, yet, kinda bummed about it. At least we get a repreive for a few months of no Survivor as I think the new one doesn't start until the fall.
dl.tv - Episode 61 - Talk about Skype being free in the US and Canada now, which is awesome. Also they spoke a lot about E3 again. PLEASE PLEASE let this week be over. I want a 360. I want a Wii. I want a P3. That's all I need to know. Showed off the new Windows Media Player 10 (11?) beta? It looks pretty but I'll probably stick with winamp as it's ugly but fast.
Music Reviews:
The Beatles - Rubber Soul - Just recently picked up this album, which I don't think I've ever heard before from start to finish. My parents are Beatles fans, just not huge fans, content with just owning the White Album and maybe Sgt. Peppers. Me, I'm a pretty big fan and am still collecting some of thier albums I've never heard all the way. Rubber Soul is very good, and a lot of the songs I like a whole lot (especially Norwegian Wood (This Bird has Flown), first use of a sitar on a rock album.) Also includes the classics, In My Life and Michelle.
The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour - again, probably the first time I've listened to this album from start to finish. It's good, but not, IMO, great Beatles album. Which means it's probably in the top 500 albums ever :). As John puts it, All You Need is Love, well, maybe in a perfect world.
The Toasters - Enemy of the System - This is one of the "new" ones from The Toasters, released in 2002, I think. Good toe-tapping ska that is really easy to listen to. Sweet Home Town Jamaica (ska/reggea version to the "tune" of Sweet Home Alabama) was interesting. Also weird that eMusic says there are two untitled tracks. They're both pretty good, wish I knew what their name was. Off to Google I guess :)
Samiam - Billy - This is a CD that I had I heard it for the first time when I was in High School it probably would've become my favorite CD. Since I didn't, I'll recognize it as a very good CD that will get on my iPod and get played. But the teen-angst that it is filled with doesn't quite resonate with a 20-something me. Perhaps that's my fault and I've become too complacent lately and I should get some of that teen-angst back in my life. Off to watch some My So Called Life or Freaks and Geeks :)
Chamberlain - Fate's Got a Driver - Pretty good though, I enjoyed it. According to AllMusic.com this was a "transition" album between the bands earlier Hardcore days and it's later midwestern-emo days, but you can definatly still see how they used to be a hardcore band.
Fall Out Boy - Evening Out with Your Girlfriend - It's actually not bad. All I knew about Fall Out Boy was what was on the radio, which is only OK, but this album isn't that bad at all. This was released a while ago, before their airplay. Not stellar or great or any such adjective, but listenable. Interesting pop-culture references such as "I'll be your John Cusak" fill the lyrics.
Galaxie 500 - This is Our Music - Very mellow CD, nice to chill to. I liked the Velvet Underground's Here SHe Comes Now cover as well.
Greenwalk - Greenwalk - Boring. It was a free download, but even still it left a lot to be desired.
